(Photographs are important)
Marty is a native of Washington DC and his interest in photography began at an early age. He enjoyed taking photos during grade school and received training in film development, processing and darkroom techniques while attending the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). Following his graduation from UMCP, Marty began freelance work, photographing private and public events. In the early 1980's, he also began taking photos for the First Baptist Church of North Brentwood and has been the church's principal photographer for a number of years.
His knowledge of photography was heightened when he worked as a photography assistant to the late Mr. John Holliday, a Washington DC based photographer. Marty credits Mr. Holliday with expanding his photographic experience and improving his skills in posing, lighting and composition for weddings and portraiture.
In 2004, Marty transitioned from film to digital photography. He has experience in covering various photographic assignments which include events, concerts, conferences, weddings, individual and group portraits. He has used 35 mm single lens reflex (SLR) and 2 1/4 format film cameras. Presently, Marty uses Canon digital SLR cameras and accessories. He is a member of the Professional Photographers of America.
In February 2011, several of Marty's photographs were included in the book, "A Time To Build: The History of The First Baptist Church Inc. of North Brentwood Maryland And The Fifty Two Year Spiritual Journey of Its Pastor, Perry Anderson Smith III, written by Dr. Sandra Shannon.
Presently, Marty is specializing in event and concert photography.
